Ask any teacher, sensei, parent or leader what it takes to be a winner, and you will probably get a consensus answer. It takes hard work, long hours and commitment. And yes, they are correct; it takes all of the above. There are times, however, when we need to listen and learn from the other side. We need to hear from the people we train and prepare for the highest levels of competition. As mentors we need to understand what our students are going through from their eyes, and appreciate their efforts and sacrifices.
